Wow, what an awesome couple of days in Zermatt - we had an absolute ball. We started out by taking the Glacier Express from Chur to Zermatt (and back again). The train took 6 hours to get to Zermatt, but was pretty impressive we have to say...
The crew off to Zermatt |
Chilled out with our 3 course lunch and soaked up the scenery |
The view along the way was really impressive, with the streams, waterfalls, stunning mountains, snow
Cool stuff kept people interested |
Cool snow-capped peaks |
Crazy suspension bridge... |
Heaps of snow melt streams |
The hotels' beast of an electric bus came and picked us up from the train station. No petrol\diesel vehicles allowed up here, so everything is electric or horse driven. Made it easy for the little suckers to sneak up behind you.
I decided to give fondue a crack for dinner on the first night. The kids hadn't had fondue before, so very generously polished most of it off for me.....
This stuff is awesome .... mmm.....melted cheesy stuff on bread....mmmm.. |
Took a couple of lazy snaps from our balcony of Zermatt and helped reduce our luggage weight by getting rid of some of that wine.... pretty little place.
Headed on up to see the Matterhorn the next morning - naturally we took the lift, there was no way we were going to walk up there.
Matterhorn (mountain) in the background.... there's no way we were walking up to that sucker. |
Ink smiling ....maybe had something to do with the height off the ground at this point |
The kids going snap happy on their iPods |
This lift had heaps of points where we thought we were at the top... just to find out it kept going up & up....
About half way up.... that's Zermatt (in the valley) where we left from.... Pretty happy with the choice of taking the lift right about now |
At the top there was Glacier Palace - a massive set of tunnels under the snow, displaying ice sculptures, and included an ice slide for the kids.... it was pretty cold, but impressive I have to say
Heading down to the Glacier Palace |
Cool ice sculptures... |
Ze Queen of Glacier Palace on her ice thrown ......(and servant).... surprisingly not that far from reality |
...until she was knocked off and taken over by the king |
They even had a life sized Audi made out of ice |
The end of the ice slide ride that the kids took... |
...all the kids... |
Up the top of the snow fields there was a tube ride the kids enjoyed...
The tube spinner was in position.... |
...and he was off |
Em - tube ride 4 of 43.... |
Em cruising down on the tube |
Even the big kids had a go... |
Our pretty average snowmen (and women to be PC) went up.... |
...and gently came down (as Thomas lays in the boot...) |
We grabbed some refreshments and sipped on the worlds most expensive hot chocolates, before catching the cable car down...
Thomas and Emily looking for the cable car ... No sign of anyone a little nervous of heights nor of the cable car, or the other end of it. This one takes us down near to the previous photo. |
Yay...it came ...only serious cable cars up here.... |
The next morning we were the only ones that went to take a photo of the sun rising of the Matterhorn.
*** Mum I've included some photo's of what you missed on your trip - totally get how you couldn't make it though ;)
The Matterhorn before dawn |
....Seriously people have you nothing better to do at this hour... |
Sun rising on the Matterhorn... it was pretty cool, and would be even better with more snow reflecting off it. |
We then jumped on the Glacier Express again, and headed towards Italy. We will definitely come back to Zermatt - it was spectacular.
Dear 5/6 White and Miss Ferguson,
Today I went to the snow! It was awsome! We went into the ice cave and azing ice sculptures - they had ice carvings of animals, a car, a treasure chest! - they were so cool! After that we went out to the and built a snowman. We also went on an awesome snow ride!
From your awesome classmate Emily
Dear 2 White and Mrs Barrett,
We went on a cable car up to a very tall mountain. Me and Emmy took lots of photos.. and we built a snowman. It was really fun.
